FAQs
I haven't been to church in a long time. Is it okay for me to come?
You bet! In fact, we don’t care if you’ve never been to church. Each weekend, many people—singles, couples, adults, families—visit Christ the King for their very first time. Our worship services are easy to follow and don’t require that you have any past church experience.
Do I have to be a Lutheran to come to CTK?
Not at all! Christ the King is open to all people seeking to grow deeper roots in Jesus! Being Lutheran isn’t nearly as important as simply having a heart to seek God. Want to learn more about Lutheran doctrine? That’s always an option! But it’s certainly not a requirement for attending.
What about membership at Christ the King Lutheran Church?
We encourage membership at Christ the King for folks wishing to publicly align with the mission, values, vision, and beliefs of our congregation. Just about all activities and volunteer roles are open to everyone, member and non-member alike. But certain leadership positions are reserved for those who’ve aligned themselves with the church through membership.
So, how do I become a member?
Membership is a simple, four-step process.
- First, attend a New Member Class.
- Next, submit a New Member Request for church membership along with a transfer of membership (if applicable).
- Then, have a casual, informal visit with Pastor Dan.
- Finally, be introduced to the congregation on a New Member Sunday.
New Member classes and New Member Sundays are scheduled three times each year in September, January, and April. Everyone is invited to attend. You’ll have an opportunity to learn more about who we are as a congregation and to ask any questions you may have. By attending the New Member class, you are not making the commitment to become a member, but you’ll be invited to do so upon completion.
Is there a dress code? What should I wear?
Wear what you feel is comfortable and appropriate. We do not have a dress code and we certainly wouldn’t want you to worry about this! Some people wear jeans and t-shirt, while others come in “business casual” attire. Some people prefer to dress up, while others prefer to dress down. We are more concerned about your heart and your needs than we are about your clothing.
What if I want to receive Holy Communion (The Lord's Supper)?
First things first: Jesus said in Matthew 26:26-30, “Take and eat, this is my body… Drink from this cup all of you, this is my blood.” Jesus didn’t say “This represents my body” or “This symbolizes my blood.”
Baptized adult Christians who believe in the real presence of Christ’s body and blood; who know they need God’s daily forgiveness; and who are sorry for their sins and seek God’s forgiveness are invited to share this great gift of God with us. Jesus called us to celebrate Holy Communion until he returns so that we may have forgiveness of our sins, strengthening of our faith, and the power to live God-pleasing lives. It is His meal and we come at His invitation.
If you have questions, doubts, or want to better understand our beliefs about the Lord’s Supper, please connect with Pastor Dan
During communion, white grape juice is located in the inner ring of the Communion tray for those who prefer it over wine.
I'm struggling with some personal problems. Is help available?
Absolutely! Many (most) people—Christians included—face challenges in their personal and family lives. Whether it’s addictions, marital problems, financial crises, abuse, depression, divorce, deaths of loved ones, physical trauma, or emotional problems, we want to support you and encourage healing in your life however possible. It is admirable and courageous to recognize that you need support in sorting out life's difficulties. Please contact the church office to get in touch with our Care Ministry.
